What this is...

This is a FrontPage Template in variable width format, so it will adjust itself to full width viewing on your visitors monitors.  In order to use this design for your own web, you will need to open FrontPage and select:

FP2000: File, New, Web - then select the twc-xxx CSS Template from the popup listing.

FP2002: File, New, Page or Web, New from Template - Web Template - then select the twc-xxx CSS Template from the popup listing.

What you will have afterward is an exact duplicate of the web you are previewing here, and you will simply replace our information with your information, rename the pages for button/banner purposes, and add or delete pages as needed.

Converting an Existing Web

Unfortunately, there is no way to convert an existing web to a new web template with FrontPage 2000 or 2002. You may, however, simply copy and paste your existing web's page content into each page in the new web you have created with this template.

The bottom line?  Templates are NOT themes - they can't be "applied" like a theme can.  Then again, they look SO much more professional than a theme that it's well worth the extra effort!

What's the Easiest Way?

We find that it is usually easiest to simply copy your content from your online web, page by page, from the browser, then paste into FrontPage in "Normal" view.  You'll have to double-check, of course, but this method normally carries forward all your information - hyperlinks, form information, etc.

When saving, be sure to set the images/ directory to the directory in your new web you wish to contain your images.

External CSS Sheet

This template uses a Cross-Browser Compatible external cascading style sheet to control fonts and colors.  To modify, open the file "style.css" from your Folder List in FrontPage.  Please note:  if you are unfamiliar with CSS, you should make a backup of the original file before attempting modifications.

About CSS Compatibility

While there are many CSS attributes that aren't recognized by all browsers, we concentrate on making our tags as browser-friendly as possible for the design in use.  If you are concerned about the appearance of your end web in all browsers, we urge you to check the the template designer to ensure that current browsers in use can properly display the finished web.

As for this template?  We have tested and it works great in Netscape 6 & 7, as well as MSIE 5 & 6.

Menu System

This template uses standard FrontPage Navigation.  The lower "Main Pages" menu, containing the link to Home and Secondary page levels, is set to "Child Pages Under Home", with "Include Home Page" checked.

The secondary level menu varies from page to page, depending on which page you are on.  This page, for example, is a child page to the "Introduction" page, so, on *this* page the second level is set to "same level", so it can locate other links on the same level.

If you are unfamiliar with FrontPage navigation, please take the time to look at how the various menus are set up.  In Normal view, simply right-click over the menu, and select Link Bar Properties.  That page will show you what we have selected for the various levels.

FAQs

What is the loading time of this template?
  • As is, the pages  load at around 8 seconds over 28.8 modem connection.  That translates to 4 seconds over a 56k modem, and, ummm...  well, milliseconds over cable or DSL connection.

Can I easily change the colors on this template?

  • As long as you are familiar with CSS, you can change the colors.  Our colors and fonts are all defined in the "style.css" file, which is in the Folder List along with your other files.

Where's the theme?

  • There isn't one.  This template is totally driven by the external style sheet, and uses FrontPage Navigation for the menu system.

How do I change the logo at the top of the pages?

  • Just type it in.  Our "your name here" font color and style is defined in the style sheet, so whatever you type in the cells will assume the same look as what we have here.

Can I add more pages?

  • Certainly!  You can add as many as you wish!  Just use one of our blank page templates (see the "What's Included" page of this template).  Go to the Folder List (View, Folders) and open the template of our choice.  As soon as it is open, go to File, Save AS... - then save it as the name you want your new page to have.  Now, go to the Navigation view (View, Navigation).  Is your Folder List open as well?  If not, the go to View, Folder LIST to open it.  Next, locate the new filename in the Folder List (it's probably at the bottom), left click over it and while holding down the left mouse button, drag it over into the Navigation Structure and drop it where you want it, so that it is underneath either the Home page or another existing page.  Repeat every time you wish to add a new page!

Why can't I change the (pick a word) in the lower section???

  • The lower portion of this template is contained in an included, separate page for your convenience.  This way, you only have to make the modifications on one page for them to appear on all pages.  Open the page include_bot.htm to make your changes, save, and you're done!

Can I put my own images in the text area of the page?

  • Sure - you can do virtually anything with this template you can do with any web.

About the Imagery

The images contained in this template are copyright images; we have paid the appropriate licensing fees to use the graphics in this template.

The graphics are located in the images/design_elements folder, should you want to locate them to switch one out.  If you prefer to use your own graphics, in FrontPage Normal view, left click over the existing image, select "Picture Properties" from the popup box, and get the dimensions of the image you wish to replace on that first page.

Page Templates

We have included several options for you to add pages:

  • Use page templates listed to the right.   Simply open the template of your choice, save it with the name you want it to have, then drag it from the folder list into the navigational structure where you want it to appear.

  • Use the FrontPage page template (same format as template1.htm), which will be located in your page template listing along with the other page templates.  Our page templates have the same name as the web template and theme, for your convenience!

NOTE:  Sometimes FrontPage 2002 will create a bullet list in a weird table. All you have to do is highlight the cells of the table and delete them, then insert your own bulleted list.

Page Buttons

Depending on the type site you have, you may wish to use additional "page buttons" that match the style of the design, so we've included buttons for that purpose here.  If you have no need for them, just delete them!

The buttons are located in the images/page_buttons folder, and are clearly labeled for your convenience!

Template Basics

This template is complete with two page layout templates, a suggested commerce layout, Feedback Form, Table of Contents, 10 pre-made content pages (you can add as many more as you wish, of course),  and plenty of help.
