"Every day presents an opportunity
to be involved in a child's life and turn the tide of poverty,
loneliness, hunger, illness, and hopelessness into a wave of
love, security, and a chance for a better future."

The program in Kenya
offers education, meals and housing to hundreds of orphans in
several areas of the country. Reverend Domnic O. Ochoo oversees
the five Kenyan orphanages that orphanCare supports and a meal
program for children.
The Children of Kenya
- Two in every three
children born in Kenya die before reaching age five.
- Malnutrition affects
around one in every three children
- 70% of the population in
rural areas have no access to clean, safe water
- Only one in four children
go to secondary school
- Over 2,000,000 people
(almost 15% of the population) in Kenya are living with
HIV/AIDS--1,500,000 children are orphaned by aids
How you can
help...
Food for the hungry
- Food prices have soared in Kenya. And more and more
children become orphans every day. Dillon International is
able to reach out to some of these children through the Bala
Mercy Orphanage.
- In Kisumu town the street
children's feeding program feeds about 50-70 children twice
daily. However, the program depends on available funds to
purchase food. Reverend Ochoo says that they sometimes have
to beg for leftovers from the restaurants in order to feed
all the children in need.

Clinic
- A donation from you could
help provide medical treatment and care for the children in
Bala. This care would include a nurse, a visiting
doctor and medical supplies.
- Reverend Ochoo said that
in the past a medical team from Australia has done annual
medical check-ups for the children and communities in Kenya.
However, the medical team has been unable to help for the
past two years, putting the orphanages in a bad situation
when children become sick. The need for a local clinic or
health centre has become an urgent need.

Daily Living
- orphanCare helps support
five orphanages in Kenya. Each orphanage supports between
150 to 500 children and several of them also offer a school
to educate the children.
- Orphanages supported
through orphanCare International are: Bala Mercy Orphanage,
Word of Hope Orphanage, Olando Children's Care Centre, Word
Aflame Orphanage and Kuria Mission Orphanage.
- Many of the orphanages are
lacking facilities such as classrooms and dining halls. They
are also in need of monthly support to provide for meals and
staff wages.
- Reverend Ochoo said that
there is also a need for a safe place to care for the
abandoned babies and unwanted children in Kenya. They are
currently seeking a facility with at least four bedrooms, a
living room and other areas to either rent or purchase. To
rent a building will cost about $450 a month. To buy a
facility will cost between $65,000 to $70,000.

Education
- Many people in Kenya are barely surviving as they live
well below the poverty line.
By offering desperately needed
educations to the children in Kenya Dillon provides them
with a way out of this lifestyle. Tuition, books and two
meals a day are given to each child who attends the Bala
Mercy School. In addition, we are also trying to provide
each child with uniforms.
- Schools supported through
these orphanages are: Bala Mercy Primary School, Down House
High School and Word Aflame School.
- Donations are also being
accepted to help fund a vocational training center to
provide skills for children over age 13. The children will
learn skills to help them support themselves and start local
businesses.
