"Every day presents an opportunity
to be involved in a child's life and turn the tide of poverty,
loneliness, hunger, illness, and hopelessness into a wave of
love, security, and a chance for a better future."

Founded in 1981, the Indian
Society for the Rehabilitation of Children (ISRC) cares for infants and children in the lower
income areas of Kolkata (Calcutta). They have helped
thousands of children over the years and orphanCare
International is proud to be a partner in providing aid to
the children.

Through your donations we
recently purchased a van for the orphanage in India.
They can now take the children to the doctor, on special
trips and to meet their new families--without being at
the mercy of the taxi system. |

Lunch Program
The ISRC hosts a lunch program that daily feeds
approximately 60 school children. They have
established a milk program for children two-to-four
years old, and are currently in the process of
setting up a healthy food program.

Matri Sneha Orphanage
Matri Sneha
orphanage is home to 35 infants in the nursery and 60 to
80 children in the toddler home. The orphanage provides constant care
with three full-time doctors, three full-time nurses,
two full-time physical therapists, and 35 ayahs
(caregivers) on staff. Medicines, bottles, and
diapers are very expensive in India. These items are in
constant demand to help the mission of this caring
staff. Anju Roy, director of the ISRC,
works very closely with the medical staff for the
nursery.
-
And for the children
in India this covers
the costs for daily or weekly visits from
specialists such as:
-
physical
therapists/teachers - work with the children to
promote healthy muscles and strength training
-
physiotherapists -
coordinate the physical therapy sessions for the
children and work with the physical therapists
-
doctor - visits the
children daily
-
nurse - on staff
and sees the children each day
-
Facility sponsorships
are also available to help replace the many items
that are used by the children throughout the year
such as furniture, toys, and mattresses for cribs.
-
Gifts of items are not
encouraged as we do not have a way of getting the
items to the children unless a local family is
traveling and is willing to take it for us.
-
Payments can be made on
a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
-
Payments can be made by
cash, check, money order, credit card or automatic
check withdrawal.

Innocent Smile
Madhur Muskaan, the
"Innocent Smile" program, is dedicated to the treatment,
welfare and upkeep of children with special needs. There
are currently several children between ages three months
and nine years available for sponsorship.
Each child has
physical and/or mental disabilities. Although
these children are available for adoption, due to their
ongoing health issues, they most likely will not be
adopted. Therefore, the commitment of sponsors--like you--to meeting these children's ongoing needs is
vital for their future. After selecting a child or
children to sponsor, you will receive the child's photo
along with a short biography about the child.
Child sponsorships
provide funding for:
-
Daily care sponsorships include food, clothing, and
24-hour daycare. The ayahs (caregivers) work in two
12-hour shifts to provide around the clock care for each
child.
-
The children available for child sponsorship are also
some of the same children available for adoption in
Dillon International's Waiting
Child program. There is always an opportunity for your
sponsor child to find a family to call their own!
-
Gifts of items are not encourage as we do not have any
way of getting the item(s) to the children unless a local
family is traveling (and is willing to take it for us).
-
Gifts of money for birthdays, holidays, etc. can be made
for your sponsored child and will be sent to the orphanage
in honor of your child.
-
Payments can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual
basis.
-
Payments can be made by cash, check, money order, credit
card or automatic check withdrawal.

In addition, Mrs. Roy also
works with the local cancer hospital seeking sponsors to
fund medical care for local cancer patients. An
average of 15 patients a month from 12-to-60 years old
require treatment through this program. With the
rise in patients suffering from serious ailments, the
request for grants remains constant.
-
Cancer Hospital -
there are many people, both children and adults,
who are suffering from some form of cancer.
Many of these people are unable to pay for the
basic health care needed to fight their disease.
The sponsorship amount is an average for the
full cost for cancer treatment (i.e. Rs. 109,333
or $2,400).
