Founded in 1981, the Indian Society for the Rehabilitation of
Children (ISRC) cares for infants and children in the lower
income areas of Kolkata (Calcutta). They have helped
thousands of children over the years of which orphanCare
International is proud to be a partner.

Opportunities |
|
The ISRC hosts a lunch program that daily feeds
approximately 60 school children. They have
established a milk program for children two-to-four
years old. They are currently in the process of
setting up a healthy food program.
Matri Sneha
orphanage is home to 35 infants in the nursery and 60 to
80 children in the toddler home.
|
 |
|
The orphanage provides constant care
with three full-time doctors, three full-time nurses,
two full-time physical therapists, and 35 ayahs
(caregivers) on staff. Medicines, bottles, and
diapers are very expensive in India. These items
are in constant demand to help the mission of this
caring staff. Anju Roy, director of the ISRC,
works very closely with the medical staff for the
nursery.
|
|
In addition, Mrs. Roy also
works with the local cancer hospital seeking sponsors to
fund medical care for local cancer patients. An
average of 15 patients a month from 12-to-60 years old
require treatment through this program. With the
rise in patients suffering from serious ailments, the
request for grants remains constant. |
