"Every day presents an opportunity to be involved in a child's life and turn the tide of poverty, loneliness, hunger, illness, and hopelessness into a wave of love, security, and a chance for a better future."

Earthquake in Haiti

For those interested in adopting from Haiti please visit this link. Due to the current chaos in Haiti, we are not currently processing new applications, but your name will go on a list and when we have more information we will contact you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jerry Dillon traveled to Haiti with the medical supplies. He made it safely and took about 300 inflatable mattresses and x-ray film for the hospital there. Those were two of the greatest needs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gladys and her team made it safely to Port-au-Prince Tuesday with supplies.
However, the hospital urgently needs mattresses, x-ray film and
cauterization machines. IF YOU HAVE MEDICAL CONTACTS that could help us get these items to Haiti please contact our office at (918) 749-4600.

In addition we are still helping supply fuel, food, water and medical supplies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, the need is still great. On Wednesday a second earthquake hit Haiti. Our orphanages and the hospital were not damaged, but the hospital continues to be flooded with earthquake victims. Gladys and her team made it safely to Port-au-Prince yesterday with supplies.

In addition to fuel, food, water and medical supplies the hospital is in need of additional mattresses for patients. Our families and friends have been most generous in their response and at last count we received over $35,000 in donations for Haiti.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your generosity has helped raise more than $20,000 for the victims of the earthquake!

On Friday Hope Hospital ran out of supplies and fuel for the gas generators. Gladys has made it back to the United States from India and is putting together a team to fly to Haiti via the Dominican Rupublic on Monday. The team will take much needed supplies and includes medical staff.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12 a 7.0 earthquake hit just outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The Hope Hospital and Children's Village that Dillon International works with suffered some flooding and minor structural damage. For more information about the earthquake click here. To donate to the hospital and orphanage in Haiti click the button below.
Both the orphanage and hospital are open, but in desperate need of fuel for the gas generators and necessities such as food, medical supplies and other items. All donations will be sent directly to Haiti.

We are so very saddened by the tragedy that has hit Haiti! We have learned from Gladys Thomas, the Director of Dillon’s Programs in Haiti, that the Children’s Village and Hope Hospital are okay. There has been some flooding and one of the walls on a building collapsed. Many people are gathering in this location, but otherwise all is well. The Village (orphanage home) has food, but the children are scared.

There will be many people throughout the Haitian community that will continue to come to Hope Hospital looking for care and it is already very full with earthquake victims.

The great need right now is gasoline to run the generators.
If you are interested in helping provide aid to the children and people of Haiti please click the link below.  We are able to get the funds directly to Gladys and the funds will be put immediately to use.

The children in Hope Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, take one day at a time. Gladys Thomas, the Director of the Foundation for the Children of Haiti which operates Hope Hospital,  has committed her life to saving the lives of the young. With Gladys as their guardian angel, the children know the love of God.  orphanCare International is honored to be a part of her work.

Side Note . . .
As the children grow up, they continue to help and serve the Children's Village.  From doctors to radio talk show hosts to pastors, these young people are finding ways to give back to the community that has given so much to them.

Myrtha's story...

Myrtha was the fourth of seven children to a poor family in St. Michel de L’attalaye. Her father gardened and worked the occasional construction job to try to sustain the family, but he had no money to register any of the children in school.
She is now 25 years old, but Myrtha came to the Haiti Home for Children when she was six. She was a very obedient child with a strong desire to learn. During her time at HHC she studied hard and passed both of the end of High School Education State exams. Originally her desire was to go to Canada and study nursing, but when that fell through she was determined to continue her studies. She entered medical school in 2002 and is now in her third year of medical studies.
Myrtha continues to live at HHC where she helps the administration, supervises a group of girls when not at school and helps with stock management. Myrtha now hopes to become a general surgeon and plans to work at Hope Hospital as a way to help others. She is an example to many and everyone at HHC looks forward to addressing her as Dr. Myrtha Jean-Baptiste in the near future.
